Question : Wastage of Foodgrains

(a) whether the attention of the Government has been drawn to the fact that a large amount foodgrains get wasted due to lack of sufficient storage facility of foodgrains in the country every year;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the details in terms of their excess foodgrains storage capacity in Bhagalpur district and the State of Bihar?

(a) & (b): No damage of Central Pool Foodgrains (wheat & rice) stored in godowns can be directly attributed to lack of storage facility.
As on 31.12.2020, storage capacity available with Food Corporation of India (FCI) and State agencies for storage of central pool foodgrain stock is 819.19 Lakh MT (Covered– 669.10 LMT and CAP –150.09 LMT) against the stock holding of 529.59 Lakh MT.
(c): As on 31.12.2020, storage capacity available with FCI and State agencies for storage of central pool foodgrain stock is 15.23 Lakh MT (Covered– 14.23 LMT and CAP– 1.00 LMT) in the State of Bihar, including a capacity of 0.40 LMT for monthly allocations of 0.14 LMT under National Food Security Act (NFSA)/Other Welfare Schemes (OWS) in Bhagalpur revenue district.
