Question : NATIONAL PROGRAMME FOR BOVINE BREEDING



(a) whether the National Programme for Bovine Breeding and Dairy Development (NPBBDD) is under implementation to increase the milk production by developing and conserving of indigenous breeds of milch cattle;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the salient features of the scheme;

(c) whether the Union Government has received proposals from various State Governments under the scheme during the last three years and the current year;

(d) if so, the details thereof, along with the funds sanctioned, released and utilised under the scheme during the said period, year and State-wise; and

(e) the overall benefits accrued to the States, in terms of increase in production of milk and other parameters?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (e) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 324 NATIONAL PROGRAMME FOR BOVINE BREEDING TO BE ANSWERED ON 16th DECEMBER 2014.

a) to e) Yes, Sir. The National Programme for Bovine Breeding and Dairy Development (NPBBDD) has been launched in February 2014 with an integrated, holistic and scientific approach to improve and upgrade the genetic makeup of bovines, enhancing their production and productivity, including developing and conserving indigenous breeds of milch cattle; and development of dairy infrastructure for improved procurement, processing and marketing. The Scheme has two components (a) National Programme for Bovine Breeding (NPBB) and

(b) National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD). With a view to conserve and develop indigenous bovine breeds and to increase their productivity the Government has provided a further focus on indigenous bovine breeds by way of a new initiative Rashtriya Gokul Mission, under the National Programme for Bovine Breeding and Dairy Development. The details of the proposals sanctioned and funds released State wise under NPBBDD scheme are annexed.
