Question : National Tiger Survey

(a) whether the Government proposes to carry out national tiger survey in the near future;
(b) if so, the details thereof and the benefits likely to be achieved as a result thereof; and
(c) whether such survey can help in conservation of environment in the country?

(a), (b) & (c) The fourth round of All India Tiger Estimation, 2018 using refined double sampling approach, has begun in all the tiger range States, inter alia, including States of Goa, Gujarat, Manipur and Nagaland. The number of tiger, landscape-wise and tiger reserve-wise is estimated through this process. Information regarding other co-predators, prey species and habitat is also gathered which helps the management in planning conservation and protection strategy of tigers and wildlife, necessary habitat interventions, besides generating baseline information for addressing climate change issues.
