Question : Rail Connectivity in North Eastern Region

(a) whether the Government is aware about the long pending public demand for construction of a new shorter railway line between Panisagar Station and Monacherra Station which would reduce distance from Agartala to Aizawl and Imphal and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the North East Frontier Railway Authority has been directed by the Government for submission of a formal proposal for inclusion of its cost in the Railway Budget for the year 2019-20; and

(c) if so, the status of the proposal and the action initiated by the Government in this regard?

Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF RAILWAYS AND COMMERCE & INDUSTRY

(SHRI PIYUSH GOYAL)

(a): Railway projects are taken up on the basis of remunerativeness, last mile connectivity, missing links and alternate routes, augmentation of congested / saturated lines, socio-economic considerations etc. depending upon throwforward of ongoing projects and overall availability of funds. At present, no proposal for survey of a new line between Panisagar and Monacherra is under consideration.

(b): No, Sir.

(c): Does not arise.
