(d) The Government has taken the following steps to increase steel production, consumption, exports and reduce steel imports in the country:-
i) Modified of GFR guidelines to incorporate life cycle cost analysis while formulating the design and specification in the public / PPP projects.
ii) Constituted of Steel Consumer Council in January, 2017.
iii) Hired consultants for “Social Media Marketing” to promote steel usage and educate on the various avenues of steel usage and its advantages.
iv) Constituted of 4 Task Forces in conjunction with relevant ministries for increasing steel usage in the Railways, Urban development, Road Transport & Highways and Shipbuilding sector.
v) Closely monitors the ongoing expansion plans as committed by PSUs, which has led to creation of new capacities and modernization and expansion of old ones. Since April, 2015, 16 MT of crude steel production capacity has been added to increase the overall crude steel capacity to 126 MT (as on 1st February, 2016).
vi) Has levied Safeguards & Anti-Dumping duty on various steel products to protect the industry from Unfair Trade Practices.
