371 TO BE ANSWERED ON 20.12.2011 REGARDING FUNCTIONING OF NSNIS ASKED BY DR. SUCHARU

(a) Yes, Madam.
(b)to(d): A High Power Committee (HPC) was constituted by the Government under the
Chairmanship of Prof. Mool Chand Sharma, Vice Chairman, University Grants Commission
to review the functioning of Netaji Subhash National Institute of Sports (NSNIS), Patiala.
The Committee has submitted its report to the Government with recommendations on institutional
arrangements, human resource requirement and academic programmes.
The matter was further examined by the Government and it was felt that the academic mission
of NSNIS, Patiala needs to be re-enforced. With the objective to make NSNIS, Patiala an
Institute of Excellence for Coaching Education, it has been decided in the Governing Body
of Sports Authority of India to de-merge NSNIS, Patiala from the ambit of SAI and strengthen
its academic and training programmes in coach education.
(e) There is no proposal for opening the branches of NSNIS in the country.
