Question : Riverine Fishing Ports

(a) whether the Government has conducted any survey to identify such riverine fishing ports where there is scarcity of infrastructure and other facilities, if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether the Government has announced steps for development of inland fisheries in the country and if so, details thereof;
(c) whether the Government is undertaking steps to boost economic activity along river banks and if so, details thereof;
(d) the details of the proposals submitted for setting up of new inland fishing ports during the last three years and the current year, State and UT-wise and in district of Saran; and
(e) the details of total fishing produce in the country, inland and coastal, State-wise, for the last seven years?

(a) No, Sir.
(b) to (c): The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying is implementing a new flagship scheme namely ‘Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana’ as a part of Atmanirbhar Bharat Covid-19 response with an estimated investment of Rs.20,050 crore for implementation for a period of five years from FY-2020-21 to 2024-25 for the overall development of Fisheries Sector in the country including Inland Fisheries. The PMMSY also envisages for support for establishment of fish landing centres in both Inland and maritime States/UTs to boost economic activity. Assistance will be provided based on the proposals received from States/UTs.

(d) Proposals have not been received from States/UTs for setting up of new inland fishing ports during the last three years. While there is no precedence of taking up of establishing Inland fishing ports in the country, Fish Landing Centres under ‘Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana’ at an estimated cost upto Rs.25 crore can be taken up for establishing landing and berthing facilities including some of the post harvest infrastructure as may be available in fishing harbours/ports.

(e) The details of total fish production, Inland and Coastal, State wise, for the last seven years from 2012-13 to 2018-19 is enclosed as Annexure.
