Question : CONSTRUCTION OF NEW AIRPORTS



(a) the details of the aircraft which can be handled at the airports owned by the Airports Authority of India;

(b) whether there is any proposal for construction of new airports in country which can handle regional jet such as short to medium-haul turbofan powered aircraft, narrow body aircraft and wide body aircraft; and

(c) if so, the details and the present status thereof along with the funds and land required for this purpose?

(a): The Airports Authority of India (AAI) owned airports are capable of handling Code B, C, D, E and F category of aircrafts depending on the airport infrastructural facilities.;

(b) & (c): Government of India has granted in-principle approval for setting of the 15 Greenfield Airports in the country namely, Mopa in Goa with total land requirements of 2271 acres, Navi Mumbai (1160 Hectares), Shirdi (350 Hectares), Sindhudurg (272 acres) in Maharashtra, Bijapur (727 acres), Gulbarga(692 acres), Hasan (960 acres) and Shimoga (653 acres) in Karnataka, Kannur (2061 acres) and Aranmula (500 acres) in Kerala, Durgapur (650 acres) in West Bengal, Dabra (3255 acres) in Madhya Pradesh, Pakyong (200 acres) in Sikkim, Karaikal (562 acres) in Puducherry and Kushinagar (525 acres) in Uttar Pradesh. Necessary action for implementation of the project including financing and land acquisition are taken by the respective airport developers.
