Question : National Kamadhenu Breeding Centre

(a) whether the Government has established a National Kamadhenu Breeding Centre;
(b) if so, the details thereof and the objectives of setting up the centre;
(c) the total financial allocation made to the centre and the utilization thereof during the last three years; and
(d) the various activities undertaken by the centre during the above period?

(a) to (d): A statement is laid on the Table of the House.

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 335 NATIONAL KAMADHENU BREEDING CENTRE TO BE ANSWERED ON 16TH JULY 2019.
(a) & (b) Yes, Sir. Government has set up two National Kamdhenu Breeding Centres (NKBC) one for Northern Region located at Itarsi in District Hoshangabad, Madhya Pradesh and other for Southern Region located at Chintaladevi in District Nellore, Andhra Pradesh.
NKBC would function as the repository of germplasm of indigenous bovine breeds with the following objectives:
i) To conserve and preserve Indigenous Bovine breeds and to enhance their productivity;
ii) To supply certified elite germplasm of indigenous breeds for their further propagation;
iii) To protect threatened breeds from extinction.

(c) State wise allocation and utilization of funds is as under:

(d) At NKBC, Andhra Pradesh a herd of 414 animals (223 cows, 9 adult males and 69 male and 113 female calves) of 17 indigenous bovine breeds (Deoni, Gir, Kankrej, Red Sindhi, Sahiwal, Rathi, Tharparkar, Punganur, Ongole, Krishna Valley, Malnad Gidda, and Kangeyam cattle breeds and Pandharpuri, Jaffarabadi, Banni, Mehsana, and Murrah buffalo) is being managed. Building along with training facilities for Embryo Transfer Technology (ETT), Laboratory with in-Vitro Fertilization capacity have been completed. NKBC Madhya Pradesh is under establishment in an area of 300 acres of land at Itarsi and 104 animals of 11 indigenous bovine breeds (Sahiwal, Gir, Malvi, Nimari, Kankrej, Hariana and Rathi cattle breeds and Jaffarabadi, Murrah, Nili Ravi and Bhadawari buffalo) have been procured.
