Question : Jobs on Compassionate Ground

(a) whether the Government has any data with regard to the deaths of Railway staff during their service period/on duty;

(b) if so, the zone-wise details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;

(c) the number of jobs that have been given on compassionate ground to the kin/dependents of the deceased staff in the last three years, zone-wise; and

(d) the number of cases pending with the Government with regard to compassionate appointments, zone-wise and the action taken by the Government in this regard?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 4018 BY SHRI BHAGWANTH KHUBA AND MS. PRATIMA BHOUMIK TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 18.03.2020 REGARDING JOBS ON COMPASSIONATE GROUND.


(a) to (d): Yes, Sir. The data of deaths of Government Servants during service/on duty and the details of jobs given on Compassionate Ground to the kin/dependents for the last three years and the current year zone-wise and year-wise are given in Appendix-I.


As regards cases in which Compassionate Ground appointment (CGA) has not been given, these include cases wherein request for CGA has been rejected by the competent authority after due consideration. Further, in some cases, CGA has not been given either because there had been no request for the same or the applicant was minor, thus not eligible. In other cases, either some legal issue of heir is involved or the matter is sub judice or the complete documents have not been submitted by the applicants.
