Question : SETTING UP OF FOOD PARKS



(a) whether the Government have recently launched a scheme for setting up “Food Parks” in different parts of the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the number of food parks sanctioned and set up as on date, State-wise; and

(d) the total amount sanctioned and spent under the scheme as on date?

(a) & (b): The scheme for setting up of food parks is in existence since Eighth Five Year Plan period. The assistance is provided for creation of common facilities in Food Parks, such as cold storage/warehousing facilities, effluent treatment plant, quality control and analytical laboratory etc. The Ministry does not set up food parks of its own.

(c): The Ministry have provided financial sanction in respect of 38 food parks – one each in Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Orissa, Punjab, Tamil Nadu & Tripura; two each in Haryana, Karnataka, Manipur & Rajasthan; three each in Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, UP & West Bengal; four in Maharashtra and six in Madhya Pradesh. Work on one food park each in Tamil Nadu and Kerala has been completed.

(d): Till 30.6.2003 the Ministry had released assistance to the tune of Rs. 84.71 crores under the scheme for setting up of food parks.
