Question : CONDITION OF NATIONAL HIGHWAY 40E



(a) whether the Government has declared Jowai-Dawki road and National Highway 40 E and yet the road remains the same as it was;

(b) if so, the corrective measures proposed to be taken by the Government in this regard; and

(c) the steps taken by the Government to complete the widening of National Highway 40 in Meghalaya?

(a)&(b): No, Sir. Twelve improvement works amounting to Rs.22.84 crore have been sanctioned since the declaration of this road as a National Highway in 1999. Besides, two works amounting to Rs.1.57 crore for maintenance and repairs have also been sanctioned.

(c) Out of a total length of 216.500 km of this National Highway, 105.650 km length already stands widened to double lane NH standards. Works for widening of 37.339 km are under progress.
