Question : FOOD SECURITY AUTHORITY



(a) whether there is any proposal to set up food security authority in different parts of the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the time by which the said authorities are likely to be set up?

(a) to (c): In pursuance to the announcement made by the President of India in her address to the Joint Session of Parliament on 4th June, 2009, to enact a new law – the National Food Security Act – the Government have prepared a draft National Food Security Bill, covering various aspects of the proposed legislation.

After consultations with States/Union Territories and Central Ministries/Departments on the Draft Bill, approval of Government at the appropriate level will be obtained before its introduction in the Parliament.
