Question : Setting up of AIIMS

a) whether the Government proposes to set up more All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the country including Kerala and if so, the details thereof, State/UT-wise including the proposed locations for new AIIMS;
b) whether the Government has received any representations from various States including Kerala for the purpose and if so, details thereof and the steps taken/proposed to be taken in this regard;
c) the present status of pending AIIMS in various State/UTs along with the funds allocated, utilized and the works completed, project-wise; and
d) the time by which the said pending projects are likely to be completed?

(a) and (b) Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) aims to establish All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in all the States in the Country in a phased manner. Setting up of 22 AIIMS has been sanctioned so far under the Scheme.

Apart from 22 new AIIMS, which have been sanctioned under PMSSY since its inception, proposals for setting up AIIMS at other places have also been received. AIIMS are being set up in various parts of the country keeping in view gaps in tertiary healthcare infrastructure in different parts of the country.

(c) & (d) Out of the approved 22 AIIMS, 6 AIIMS at Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur and Rishikesh, are functional. Present status of 16 remaining AIIMS including funds allocated, funds utilized and timelines for completion is at Annexure.
