Question : CARTELISATION BY AUTO COMPANIES



(a) whether the Competition Commission of India has issued notices to the 17 auto-majors for cartelisation;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the steps taken by the Government to protect the consumers from exploitation?

THE MINISTER OF STATE (SHRI SACHIN PILOT) (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) IN THE MINISTRY OF CORPORATE AFFAIRS

(a) & (b) Information filed with the Competition Commission of India (CCI) against certain car manufacturing companies alleging anti-competitive practices is under consideration of the Commission.

(c) For protecting the interest of consumers, CCI is empowered under the Competition Act, 2002, to impose penalty or issue ‘cease and desist’ order or both, against enterprises involved in anti-competitive practices including cartelistation.
