Question : Removal of Liquor Shops

(a) whether the efforts of the Government for removal of liquor shops situated on the National Highways have been carried out properly and if so, the details in this regard;

(b) the details of the locations where the said shops have been relocated;

(c) whether the shopkeepers of the said shops have been given any compensation to offset the loss likely to be caused by the said relocation; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (d) Data on liquor shops is not compiled in this Ministry and licensing of liquor shops is covered under Excise Policy of the States. However, in the wake of increasing number of deaths due to drunken driving, Chief Secretaries/Principal Secretaries/Secretaries (Transport) of all States/UTs have been requested to ensure that no license is issued to liquor vendors along National Highway.
