Question : Har Ghar Jal Yojana

(a) whether the Government, as promised, is providing water to all households under the “HarGhar Jal” Scheme and if so, the details of the list of the areas which are yet to be covered;
(b) the details of the utilization of funds during the last five years;
(c) the details of the households that have been included under the scheme in Karur district of Tamil Nadu;
(d) whether the Government has any plan to construct check dams along the Amaravathi, Noyyal and Kaveri rivers to improve the drinking water availability in that area and if so, the details thereof; and
(e) whether the Government has any plan for interlinking the Kaveri-Gundaru river and if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (c) To enable every rural household,including the rural households of Karur district of Tamil Nadu, to have potable water at service level of 55 litre per capita per day (lpcd) through Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) by 2024, Government of India, in partnership with the States, has launched Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) (HarGhar Jal) in the current Financial Year. As reported by States/ UTs as on 01.04.2019, around 3.27 Crore rural households were with tap connection and around 14.60 Crore rural households were to be provided with tap connection across the country.
(d) Water being State subject, powers to plan, design, approve and implement such projects are vested with respective States.
(e) National Water Development Agency (NWDA) has informed that Cauvery (Kattalai)-Vaigai -Gundaru link is part of Mahanadi- Godavari- Krishna- Pennar- Cauvery- Gundar link, proposed under Peninsular component of National Perspective Plan (NPP).
