Question : RATIFICATION OF CONVENTION NO. 182



(a) whether the Government have started consultation process to ratify International Labour Organisation Convention No.182 to eliminate worst forms of child labour;

(b) if so, the progress made in this direction;

(c) whether the Governsment have sought ILO`s assistance for training and education for the workers of the unorganised sector;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the reaction of ILO thereto?

Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE FOR LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT (SHRI MUNI LALL)

(a) : Yes, Sir.

(b) : The process of tripartite and inter-ministerial consultation is in progress and the approval of the competent authority will be obtained before ratifying the Convention No.182 concerning the worst forms of child labour.

(c), (d) & (e) : In view of the importance of the informal sector and that of the unorganized sector of the Indian economy, it was conveyed to the ILO during the discussion held with DG in June, 2000 that ILO`s support would be welcome for training and education of the unorganized workforce.
