(a): Yes, Sir. Good scope exists in Orissa for increase in fish production. The State has a marine resource potential of 1.44 lakh tonnes against which the present production is 1.23 lakh tonnes per annum. Brackishwater area of about 9,000 ha suitable for shrimp culture, and 1,14,839 ha of ponds and tanks fit for freshwater aquaculture also exists in the State.
(b): Various Central/Centrally Sponsored Schemes such as (a) Development of Marine Fisheries with two components, namely,
(i) Motorization of Traditional Crafts
(ii) Reimbursement of Central Excise Duty on HSD oil supplied to small mechanized fishing vessels below 20m (b) Fishing Harbours at major and minor ports, (c) Development of Freshwater Aquaculture, and (d) Integrated Coastal Aquaculture are under implementation besides State Plan Schemes to increase fish production in Orissa during Ninth Five Year Plan.
( c): During the Ninth Five Year Plan 2400 Nos. of boats have been given subsidy for central excise duty on HSD oil, 1540 boats have been sanctioned for motorization. An area of 7460 ha of freshwater and 125 ha of brackishwater has been brought under fish/shrimp farming. An amount of 679.62 lakh has been released as central share during the period.
