(a) whether the Department of Science and Technology has taken up the task of digital mapping of the entire country;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the present status of the project for digital mapping of the entire country by the Survey of India;

(c) the details of funds allocated for the purpose;

(d) the time by which the remaining States are likely to be covered; and

(e) the time by which the project is likely to be completed?

(a) Yes, Sir.

(b) Survey of India (SoI) is not having any single project to map entire country. However, it is Department’s endeavor to map entire country with Departmental mapping & under various projects taken together. The Present status of the project of digitally mapping of entire country by Survey of India is given below:
I. Departmental Activity to Map entire country [Total Area = 32.87 lac Sq.km approx. SoI Area of Responsibility (AoR) = 31.67 lac Sq.km approx.; General Staff Geographical Section (GSGS) (Military Survey) AoR = 1.2 lac Sq.km]

1. Using High Resolution Satellite Imagery (HRSI): Work involves 05 stages as under:
Control Work completed ˜ 227804 Sq.Km
Geo-referencing completed ˜ 218249 Sq.km
Feature Extraction completed ˜139973 Sq.km
Ground Validation completed ˜ 11908 Sq.km
Final National Topographic Data Base(NTDB) ˜ 5453 Sq.km

II. Projects:

1. National Hydrology Project (NHP): [Total Area = 8.0 Lac Sq.km]
Using High Resolution Satellite Imagery: Work involves 05 stages for which status is given as under:
Control Work completed ˜ 698457 Sq.Km
Geo-referencing completed ˜ 696070 Sq.km
Feature Extraction completed ˜ 329300 Sq.km
Ground Validation completed ˜ 17328 Sq.km
Final NTDB ˜ 0 Sq.km

2. Using UAV/Drones: Work involves 04 stages for which status is given as under:

III. The details of States in which the project has started are as below:
1. (i). Departmental Activity to Map entire country using HRSI – All States / UTs.
2. (i). In the States/UT of J&K, HP, Punjab, Uttarakhand, UP, Bihar, West Bengal, Assam, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat & Arunachal Pradesh.
2. (ii). Large Scale Mapping project is being carried out in the States of Haryana, Karnataka & Andhra Pradesh.
2. (iii). SVAMITVA Project is being carried out in the States of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh. [Mapping of Village Abadi areas only under SVAMITVA project]: Working is under progress and MoUs have been signed for Chhattisgarh, Gujrat, Kerala, Odisha, Jharkhand, Arunanchal Pradesh, Ladakh(UT), Himachal Pradesh, Dadar & Nagar Haveli (UT), J&K (UT), Manipur, Assam, Mizoram, Tripura, Puducherry (UT), Andaman & Nicobar (UT) and Lakshadweep (UT).
