(a) whether the Director General of UNESCO, had met the Minister on July 9, 2003;
(b) if so, the issues discussed at the meeting;
(
(c) whether the issue of retrieving antiquities taken out of the country before independence was also taken up; and
(d) if so, the response of UNESCO thereof?
MINISTER FOR TOURISM AND CULTURE (SHRI JAGMOHAN)
(a) to (c) Director General, UNESCO called on the Minister for Tourism and Culture on 9th July 2003 during his visit to India and exchanged views on matters relating to protection and preservation of the cultural heritage particularly World Heritage Sites.
(d) UNESCO appreciated the policies and measures taken by the Government in preserving the tangible and intangible heritage of the country.
