(a) whether there has been a steady increase in the sexually transmitted diseases in the
North-Eastern States, especially Sikkim;
(b) if so, the details thereof; and
(c) the steps taken by the Government to educate the people to check the spread of these
killer diseases?

(a) & (b): As per reports received from State AIDS Control Societies of the North Eastern States,
the number of reported STI cases for last three years, including Sikkim is given below. The
number of cases reported from Sikkim is 110 in year 2004, 22 in year 2005 and 56 in year 2006.
