Question : Working Condition of Women in Police Force


(a) whether the Government maintains a State-wise record of complaints of sexual harassment at the workplace by women police personnel, including the number of complaints received, disposed of and the action taken against the implicated official(s) as per the recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee on the Empowerment of Women in its Action Taken Report (2014) on the “Working Conditions of Women in Police Force”;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (c): Police is a State subject as per List-II of the Seventh Schedule to the Constitution of India. State Governments address the complaints of sexual harassment of women police personnel at the work place, strictly following the guidelines of Hon’ble Supreme Court in this regard and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. The Act casts an obligation to provide a safe and secure environment to women

personnel at the workplace. The Act also casts an obligation upon all the employers to constitute Internal Complaint Committee. Section 23 of the Act casts responsibility on the appropriate Government to monitor the implementation of the Act and maintain data on the number of cases filed and disposed of. State-wise record of complaints of sexual harassment at the workplace of women police personnel is not maintained centrally.
