Question : PENDING CBI CASES



(a) the number of cases pending with the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI);

(b) the number of pending cases upto 5 years, upto 10 years and above, state-wise;

(c) the reasons of inordinate delay in submission of final reports;

(a) whether there is shortage of adequate efficient staff in the organisation; and

(b) if so, the details thereof including the measures proposed to be taken thereon?

(a): Total cases pending under investigation as on 31.7.2004 are 1555.

(b): Out of these 1555 cases, 1530 cases are pending upto 5 years, 23 cases are pending for more than 5 years but less than 10 years and 2 cases are pending for more than 10 years. The state wise categorization of pending cases is not possible since most of the cases are having interstate/international ramifications.

(c): The main reasons for delay in investigation in some cases are as under :

#Delay in getting witnesses. # Delay in getting documents. # Investigation in different states. # Investigation in foreign countries. # Delay in issuance and execution of Letters of Rogatory. # Delay due to extensive field investigation. # Stays granted by the Court on petitions filed by the accused.
