THE MINISTER OF MINES, COAL AND PARLIAMENTARY AFFAIRS
(SHRI PRALHAD JOSHI)
(a) to (c): The Mines and Mineral (Development & Regulation) Act, 1957 provides for development and regulation of mines and minerals in the country. The Ministry is committed towards development of mineral sector in the country and thrust has been given to exploration of new areas including remote and inaccessible areas through the agencies notified under section 4(1) of the MMDR Act. These agencies are being funded through National Mineral Exploration Trust (NMET) for exploration projects in addition to their own budgetary resources. This will also encourage new industries to be set up in remote and inaccessible areas which have mineral potential.
(d): Section 5 of the MMDR Act, 1957 provides for grant of mineral concessions to an Indian national or a company as defined in the Companies Act, 2013. The mining leases are granted through e-auction. Therefore, private players are actively involved in mining sector.
