Question : DEVELOPMENT OF RAILWAYS IN KERALA



(a) the gross traffic receipts from Railways, zone wise;

(b) whether the gross traffic receipts of the Railways from the States of Kerala have been showing steady increase over the years as compared to the receipts of other States in the country ;

(c) whether investment in development of Railways in a state is proportionate to the gross receipts from the state;

(d) if so, the details thereof, State-wise; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor and the steps taken by the Government to develop the railways infrastructure in Kerala?

(b) State wise Gross traffic receipts are not maintained.

(c) to (e) The Railways are an integrated system and the geographical boundaries of States do not form a criterion for taking investment decisions. Various projects for New Lines, Gauge Conversion, Doubling and Electrification are, therefore, taken up on the basis of overall consideration. In this process some projects like New lines, Gauge conversion, Doubling and Railway Electrification cut across state boundaries and arising from this, it become difficult to furnish precise statewise details of Railway investments.
