Question : REMOVAL OF JHUGGIS



(a) whether the Government proposes to start a campaign to remove jhuggis located in Government colonies;

(b) if so, whether those colonies are also proposed to be included in the said campaign for which CPWD had granted funds to MCD to relocate/remove jhuggis;

(c) if so, the details thereof, colony-wise and;

(d) the time by which the jhuggis are likely to be removed?

(a), (b)& (c): As per the extant instructions, detection/prevention/removal of illegal encroachments including jhuggis in Government colonies is an ongoing exercise. As and when any instance comes to CPWD’s notice, necessary action is taken for removal of such encroachments in Government colonies. Payments have been made to Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for relocation of jhuggis from Arambagh area.

(d): Removal of jhuggis is done after rehabilitation of the eligible jhuggi dwellers which depends upon availability of resources and land therefor. As such, no time limit can be indicated in this regard.
