Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT ( SHRI ARJUN SINGH )

(a) - (e): Norms and Standards for certain teacher training courses were revised by NCTE in 2002. For B.Ed. course, for which a request was made from the Govt. of Kerala for relaxation, the teacher pupil ratio was liberalized from 1:12 to 1:12.5 in 2002.

Govt. of Kerala had approached NCTE in January, 2004, for allowing existing teacher pupil ratio in respect of 21 aided B.Ed. colleges in the State, in relaxation of the above norm of 1:12.5 for a period of 3 years on the ground of their inability to create additional posts.

Council conveyed to State Govt. in March’, 2004, its inability to agree to the above request.
