(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the measures being taken by the Government to increase the agricultural production?

Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE (SHRI HUKUMDEO NARAYAN YADAV)

(a) & (b): The compound growth rate of production of all principal crops have been provisionally estimated at 1.96 per cent for the period 1990-91 to 2000-01 as against the average annual exponential growth rate of population of 1.93 per cent from 1990-91 to 2000-01.

(c): To increase agricultural production, various schemes have been taken up for implementation by the Government, like the Technology Mission on Oilseeds & Pulses, Technology Mission on Cotton, etc., Research in agriculture has also been taken up with renewed vigour so as to improve quality and productivity of crops. The Government also switched over from the conventional Schematic approach to Macro Management mode for providing assistance to States from November 2000. The scheme integrates 27 schemes into one Macro Management Scheme for supplementation/complementation of States` efforts through work plans, which gives flexibility to States to address the specific problems faced by them, avoid overlapping in the contents of the different schemes and aim for allround development of agriculture. Implementation of this scheme will further boost the agriculture production.
