Question : COMPLIANCE OF ARMS ACT



(a) the number of cases of smuggling of arms registered, arms seized along with their sources and persons convicted during the last three years and the current year, Statewise;

(b) whether incidents of deaths/killings by arms occurred due to non-compliance of Arms Act in the country;

(c) if so, the details thereof and the measures taken by the Government for strict compliance of the said act;

(d) whether there is any proposal to frame new regulations for issuance of arms license for the States of Haryana, Rajasthan and Nagaland; and

(e) if so, the details thereof along with the reasons therefor?

(a): The details of cases registered in respect of smuggling of arms, reported by Central Armed Police Forces deployed at the borders and by the Customs Authorities, arms seized and persons arrested by different Government agencies are as given below. As the cases are at various stages of investigation/trial, the details of the number of persons convicted are not available.

(b)&(c): The Government is not aware of incidents of deaths/ killings by arms due to non-compliance of Arms Act. There is no linkage between the incidents of death killings by arms and non-compliance of Arms Act. The compliance of various provisions of Arms Act is the responsibility of all concerned and provisions exists under the Act to take punitive action against those who violates the provisions of the Act. Further, Central Government wherever considered necessary issue directions to the State Government/UTs for strict compliance of the Arms Act.

(d)&(e): At present there is no proposal to fame regulations for issuance of arms licence separately for the States of Haryana, Rajasthan and Nagaland.
