Question : Rainwater Harvesting at Railway Stations

(a) whether the Government is considering to set up rainwater harvesting plants at railway stations in the country including Uttar Pradesh;

(b) if so, the details thereof:

(c) the funds sanctioned by the Government for the said scheme, zone/State-wise;

(d) whether major challenges likely to be faced in providing these facilities at railway stations have been identified; and

(e) if so, the details thereof and the action taken thereon?

(a) to (e): Railways have taken up the work of setting up of Rain Water Harvesting facilities (RWH) wherever feasible from techno-economic considerations i.e. intensity of rain fall, level of water table, soil type, salinity of ground water etc. Railway has already installed rain water harvesting system at 523 Railway Stations including 111 stations in Uttar Pradesh. The work of installation of RWH is a part of maintenance and construction activities of Railway buildings. As such, no separate fund is sanctioned.
