VISHWESHWAR REDDY REGARDING APPOINTMENT OF VICECHANCELLORS
(a) to (c): The appointment of Vice Chancellors in Central Universities is made
by President of India in his capacity as the Visitor of concerned University on the
basis of the recommendations of the Search-cum-Selection Committee as per the
procedure prescribed in the relevant Act and Statutes of the respective University.
The Search-cum-Selection Committee comprises nominees of Executive
Council/Board of Management/Court of the concerned Central University as well as
Visitor’s nominees.
The qualification for the post of Vice Chancellor is prescribed in Clause 7.3.0 of
“UGC Regulations on Minimum Qualifications for Appointment of Teachers and
other Academic Staff in Universities and Colleges and Measures for the
Maintenance of Standards in Higher Education, 2010” as amended from time to
time. These Regulations provide that persons of the highest level of competence,
integrity, morals and institutional commitment are to be appointed as Vice-
Chancellors. The Vice-Chancellor to be appointed should be a distinguished
academic, with a minimum of 10 years experience as Professor in a University
system or 10 years experience in an equivalent position in a reputed research and /
or academic administrative organization.
