Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
(SMT. SMRITI ZUBIN IRANI)

(a) to (c): The University Grants Commission (UGC) has informed that it does not give General Development Grants to private colleges. Teachers and students in these colleges are eligible to receive grants under teacher and student centric schemes if the college is included under sections 2(f) & 12B of UGC Act 1956 and is charging fees from students as per the norms fixed by the State Government/ Universities. Apart from these conditions, each scheme operated by the UGC has its own eligibility conditions laid down in its guidelines.
The State/ UT wise number of private colleges to which UGC grants are being released under teacher and student centric schemes is given in Annexure.
(d): The UGC has further informed that it is insisting on National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation of all colleges, which would encourage them to deliver quality education.
