Question : INTEGRATED WATER MANAGEMENT POLICY



(a) whether the Planning Commission has formulated a policy on integrated water management to tackle the water crisis in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Planning Commission has submitted the policy document;

(d) if so, the salient features of the said policy; and

(e) if not, the time by which the policy is likely to be framed and implemented?

(a) to (e) The Planning Commission has informed that in pursuance to the decisions taken during the full Planning Commission meeting held on 23rd March, 2010 for preparation of the detailed report on Integrated Water Policy, a Note on “Managing India’s Water Resources” was prepared and included for consideration of an agenda item for 55th Meeting of the National Development Council held on 24th July 2010. The Note covers (i) the complexity of the problem, (ii) reforms in major and medium irrigation; (iii) reforms related to ground water use; (iv) rural domestic water; (v) floods and flood management; and (vi) urban and industrial water supply.
