Question : GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR FISHERIES



(a) whether the Union Government has received a proposal from the State Government of West Bengal for establishment of geographical information system for inland fisheries; and

(b) if so, the details thereof ;

(c) the details of the budgetary allocation made by the Government for the same till date;

(d) whether any State has indicated difficulties in creating geo-referenced fishery database management system owing to funds constraints, if so, whether the Government has sanctioned any additional funds for the purpose; and

(e) if so, the details thereof along with the funds allocated by the Government has to various States during the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise?

(a) to (c): Yes, Madam. The State Government of West Bengal submitted proposal of Rs. 7.50 crore for ‘Mapping of smaller water bodies and development of GIS based Fisheries Management System’ under the Scheme “Strengthening of Database and Geographical Information System” to this Department in the year 2009-10. So far Rs. 737.29 lakh has been released to the Government of West Bengal for the purpose.

(d) : No, Madam. No such reference was received.

(e) : The State/UT-wise funds released for various components of the scheme “Strengthening of Database and Geographical Information System” during last three years and current year is given at Annexure.
