Question : HOUSING FACILITIES



(a) whether the Government provides land, financial and administrative facilities for the development of housing in the country and if so, the facts in this regard;

(b) whether the Government ensures that the houses constructed on such land are within the purchasing capacity of people belonging to the lower and lower middle classes;

(c) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reaction of the Government thereto;

(d) whether the Government has taken steps to encourage, promote and ensure the construction of maximum number of affordable houses in the country; and

(e) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOUSING & URBAN POVERTY ALLEVIATION (SHRI BABUL SUPRIYO)

(a): ‘Land’ and ‘Colonisation’ being State subjects, State are responsible to provide land, finance and administrative facilities for development of housing. However, Central Government supports the State Governments through its specific schemes/programmes.

(b) & (c): Government ensures affordability through its various schemes and programs like Interest Subsidy Scheme, Credit Risk Guarantee Fund, Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) etc.

(d) & (e): Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation has undertaken various schemes / programmes like Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM), Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) Scheme and Interest Subsidy Scheme and new mission for housing to encourage, promote and ensure affordable housing in the country.
