Question : INDIANS LANGUISHING IN PAKISTANI JAILS



(a) the total number of Indian citizens languishing in Pakistani Jails;

(b) the number out of them released during the last three years;

(c) the number of civilians and armymen arrested by Pakistani forces during the Kargil War; and

(d) the efforts being made to release the jailed Indians and provide succour to the families of those right now behind bars in Pakistan?

(a) As per available information, 1040 Indian nationals are believed to be in custody in Pakistan.


(b) During the last three years, release of 595 Indian nationals has been secured.

(c) Nil.

(d) The issue of early release and repatriation of Indian nationals under detention in Pakistani jails has been taken up repeatedly and at all levels with the Government of Pakistan. Our efforts at securing the early release of Indian nationals in Pakistani custody would continue.
