(SHRI RATTAN LAL KATARIA)

(a) to (d) Government of India started Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP) in April 2012 with the loan assistance from World Bank. Provision of rehabilitation of 223 dams located in seven States viz. Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand has been made to improve the safety and operational performance of selected existing dams and associated appurtenances in a sustainable manner. Original budget outlay of the project was Rs.2100 crore. DRIP originally was a six year scheme with scheduled closure date as 30th June 2018.

Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs (CCEA) in September 2018 approved the revised cost of DRIP for Rs 3466 crore along with two years extension. The details of Implementing Agencies, original and revised cost estimate alongwith number of dams under the ongoing DRIP are at Annexure-I.

Screening Committee of Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) has approved the proposal of DRIP Phase II & III for rehabilitation of about 687 dams at an estimated cost of Rs.10212 crore. World Bank has accepted the proposal in principle. The project is to be implemented in two phases with each phase of six years duration and an overlap of two years over each other and implementation period is from 2020 to 2030. Andhra Pradesh is not a participating State under ongoing DRIP. However, under DRIP Phase- II & III, Andhra Pradesh has submitted a proposal for rehabilitation of 31 dams with an estimated cost of Rs. 776 crore.
