Question : NATIONAL DRAINAGE TECHNOLOGY PROGRAMME



(a) whether the Union Government inaugurated the implementation of the National Drainage Technology Programme;

(b) if so, the details thereof and reasons therefor;

(c) whether the State of Andhra Pradesh stands included in the aforesaid programme;

(d) if not, the reasons therefor; and

(e) the concrete steps taken/proposed to be taken to include Andhra Pradesh in the said programme?

(a) & (b) In February 2004, a centrally sponsored scheme namely `Improvement of drainage in critical areas of the country` was sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs. 54.57 crores involving Central share of Rs. 49.62 crores. The scheme aims to improve the drainage conditions of critical areas affected due to floods in the States including Andhra Pradesh.

(c) to (e) A scheme namely `Improvement to the major drainage problematic areas in the State of Andhra Pradesh (Krishna Delta system of Guntur and Prakasham districts)` at an estimated cost of Rs. 5.45 crores has been included in the centrally sponsored scheme. An amount of Rs. 1.50 crore has been released to the Government of Andhra Pradesh in July, 2004 towards first instalment.
