Question : Role of Small and Medium Enterprises

(a) whether small and medium enterprises play a key role in the manufacturing sector of the country;

(b) if so, the percentage-wise contribution of small and medium enterprises in the total production of the manufacturing sector during the years 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18;

(c) whether some units of small and medium enterprises have also been closed down during the said period; and

(d) if so, the number of units closed during each year of the said period along with the reasons therefor?

(a)&(b): Yes Sir. As per the information received from Central Statistics Office, Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, the contribution of MSME Manufacturing to All India Manufacturing Output during 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 was 34.2%, 33.8% and 33.4% respectively.


(c)&(d): As per the information received from Reserve Bank of India (RBI), stressed accounts referred to the Corrective Action Plan Committee during the half year ended March 2017, September, 2017, March 2018 and September, 2018 are 1,00,803; 87,062; 1,30,208 and 1,50,165 respectively and the number of Sick MSMEs was 4,86,291in 2016.
