(a) whether the Government is contemplating to appoint soldiers with three years of service in the Army/Central Para-Military Forces instead of direct recruitment for the police forces; and

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the reasons therefor?

Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (SHRI JITENDRA SINGH)

(a) & (b): A third mode of recruitment known as Limited Competitive Examination has been initiated for making inductions into the Indian Police Service. Apart from officers of the State Police Services, officers of certain ranks from Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces are also eligible for appearing in the same. The eligibility criteria stipulates that officers require at least 5 years of service in their parent cadre.

The existing as well as anticipated vacancies in the direct recruitment quota of the Indian Police Service is the prime reason for introduction of the examination.
