Question : Funds for Uttarakhand

(a) the quantum of funds allocated by railways during the last three years and the current year for the development of rail network in Uttarakhand;

(b) the details of the railway projects in Uttarakhand State where work is going on;

(c) the present status of Rishikesh-Karanprayag line and whether railway has fixed any time limit for its completion and if so, the details thereof;

(d) the total estimated amount likely to be spent on the above mentioned project; and

(e) the steps taken by the Government to complete the project expeditiously?

(a) & (b): At present, 4 new line, 2 gauge conversion and 1 doubling projects falling fully/partly in the State of Uttarakhand have been taken up. Outlays of ` 231 crore, ` 176 crore, ` 83 crore and ` 415 crore have been provided for these projects in the year 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15 & 2015-16, respectively.


(c) to (e): The work of Rishikesh-Karnprayag (125 Km.) new line was sanctioned in the year 2010-11 at an original sanction cost of ` 4295 crore. The latest anticipated cost of the project is ` 17,000 crore. Final Location Survey (FLS) and staking of alignment have been completed. Land acquisition and forestry clearance proposals have been submitted to State Government of Uttarakhand. Physical execution of work can be taken up only after handing over of land by the State Government and necessary forestry clearances. As such, time line of the project has not been fixed.
