Question : UTILIZATION OF LAND



(a) whether an expert panel has said that Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) require only half of the land allotted to them;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the said panel has also recommended efficient utilization of land by way of taller and smaller in areas, buildings and if so, the details thereof;

(d) the reaction of the Government on the issue; and

(e) the steps taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) & (b): Ministry of Human Resource Development has constituted a Committee to determine land requirement for Central Higher Educational Institutions under the Chairmanship of Secretary, Department of Higher Education. The Members of the Committee are:

(i) Shri M.K. Kaw, ex-Secretary, Higher Education,

(ii) Dr. Anil Sahasrabudhe, Director, College of Engineering, Pune,

(iii) Dr. Ashok Misra, Chairperson, Board of Governors, Indian Institute of Technology,Roorkee

(iv) Prof. Syed Bari, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Gujarat and

(v) Shri K.V.Kamath, Chairman, Board of Directors, ICICI Bank.

Three meetings of the Committee have been held so far and the Committee has finalised its position.
