Question : Production of Oil and Natural Gas

(a) the actual annual production of crude oil and natural gas by the Oil and Natural
Gas Corporation (ONGC) during each of the last three years and the current year, Statewise
including Maharashtra;
(b) whether the share of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in
country''s total crude oil output and natural gas has fallen during the last three years and
the current year, if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor, year-wise;
(c) whether the Government has chalked out a scheme to achieve targets of
production of crude oil and natural gas by ONGC from their existing oil fields, if so, the
details thereof; and
(d) the steps taken by the Government to increase the production by public
sector oil companies to cut down the import bill and foreign exchange expenditure?

Answer given by the minister

MINISTER IN THE MINISTRY OF PETROLEUM & NATURAL GAS
(SHRI DHARMENDRA PRADHAN)
(a): State-wise actual annual production of crude oil (including condensate) and
natural gas by the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) during the last three years
and the current year (April to June) is given at Annexure-I.
(b): The share of ONGC’s standalone production in country''s total crude oil output
and natural gas during the last three years and the current year (April to June) are as

* 2020-21 (Apr’20 to Jun’20)- Provisional Figures
The share of ONGC’s crude oil production has increased from 62.5% in to 66.3%
and natural gas from 71.9% to 79.5%.
(c)and(d): Redevelopment of existing matured fields and development of new fields are
the are key components of the strategy to increase the production of crude oil and
natural gas by ONGC. Small/marginal fields, which were not viable on standalone basis
are being developed through cluster development concept. To increase the production
by public sector oil companies various steps like fiscal incentives on new discoveries,
incentives for enhanced recovery of oil/gas, allowing exploration and exploitation of
unconventional hydrocarbons in nomination fields, production enhancement contracts
with private players for small fields have been taken.
