(a) whether the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) has decided to bear 80 percent additional expenditure of State Agriculture Universities;

(b) if so, whether the Government have released funds to the Agriculture Universities under this head during the current financial year;

(c) if so, the details thereof;

(d) whether any amount has been released to the only Agriculture University in Bihar; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

STATEMENT IN RESPECT OF PARTS (a) TO (e) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 288 TO BE ANSWERED ON 16th AUGUST, 2004 REGARDING “ICAR”.

(a) No, Sir. The State Agricultural Universities are under the administrative and financial control of respective State Governments. However, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) gives grants to State Agricultural Universities for Education as per sanction in the various 5 year plans.

(b) & (c): Question does not arise Sir.

(d) & (e): The details of funds released by the ICAR to Rajendra Agricultural University, Pusa, during the last two years under various schemes are as follows:-
