Question : Setting up of New Science Museums

(a) whether the Government proposes to set up some more new science museums in the country;

(b) if so, the State-wise and location-wise details thereof;

(c) the amount of funds likely to be spent on the said museums; and

(d) the time by which the said museums are likely to be set up?

(a)to(d): Yes, Sir. The Science Centres/Cities are set up by National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), an autonomous organization of Ministry of Culture. NCSM is implementing agency of Ministry of Culture (MoC) under the Scheme for Promotion of Culture of Science (SPoCS) of MoC and sets up these Science Museums on the request of the State/UT Govt. upon submission of DPR with commitment of encumbrance free developed land, share of funds and other commitments as per scheme guidelines.

Ministry has taken up projects for setting up of new science cities/centres under SPoCS Scheme of Govt. of India as per list attached at Annexure.
