Question : PROJECTS UNDER NRDWP



(a) the number of projects running under National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) in various States including Himachal Pradesh in the country, State/UTwise;

(b) the number of habitations where provision of safe drinking water has been planned during 12th Five Year Plan and the amount made available for it;

(c) whether the specified targets under NRDWP in 11th Five Year Plan have been achieved, if so, the details thereof; and

(d) if not, the steps being taken by the Government to achieve the targets set under 11th and 12th Five Year Plan?

(a) The number of projects/schemes running under National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) in various States including Himachal Pradesh in the country , State/UT wise is given at Annexure-I.

(b ) Drinking Water Supply is a State subject. Under National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) , this Ministry provides financial and technical assistance to States to supplement their efforts to provide adequate safe drinking water to rural population. Under the National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) , the target for coverage of habitations with drinking water supply is done on an annual basis. During the Annual Action Plan meetings with the States at the beginning of the Financial year the States are given targets / works to be undertaken during the year. The targets and achievements during the first two years of the 12th Five Year Plan is given at Annexure-II. An amount of Rs. 68, 786 crores has been earmarked for National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) during the 12th Five Year Plan.

( c ) and (d ) The Physical targets and achievement of coverage during the XIth Five Year Plan is at Annexure-III.

Providing drinking water to the rural population is an ongoing process. During the Annual Action Plan (AAP) meeting with the States at the beginning of the financial years a detailed plan regarding the targets for providing coverage of habitations is fixed. In the meeting and also during the review meetings with State officials through Video Conferencing and field visits , States are advised to prioritize the completion of older schemes first and then take up new schemes.
