Question : TARGET FOR DISINVESTMENT



(a) the target fixed for disinvestment during 2001-2002;

(b) the target fixed and achieved during 1999-2000 and 2000-2001;

(c) the details of observations regarding target and achievement;

(d) the observations of the Department for not getting momentum regarding implementation of Disinvestment Policy of the Union Government;

(e) the corrective measures/action suggested by the Government in this regard?

(a) For the year 2001-2002, the target for disinvestment has been fixed at Rs.12,000 crore.

(b) The receipts from disinvestment during the last three years, against targets fixed are given below:-

(c) Disinvestment depends on many factors like market conditions, financial performance of the companies under consideration, terms and conditions of sale, interest of bidders, attractiveness of the companies and its future prospects.

(d) & (e) Disinvestment process has gained momentum. Government has approved disinvestment in 30 companies, which is currently under implementation. Out of these, Government has identified 13 companies with tight time-frame , to be disinvested during the current year. These 13 undertakings are : Bharat Heavy Plates & Vessels Ltd. (BHPV), CMC Ltd., IBP Co. Ltd., Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Ltd. (IPCL), India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), Instrumentation Control Valves Ltd. (ICVL), Jessop & Co. Ltd., Maruti Udyog Ltd., NEPA Ltd., HTL Ltd., Hindustan Zinc Ltd., Hotel Corporation of India Ltd. and Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (VSNL). Disinvestment in two companies, i.e., HTL Limited and CMC Limited has already been completed. Action has alsobeen finalised in certain hotel under ITDC and Hotel Corporation of India.
