Question : Eco-sensitive Zone

(a) whether the Government has identified certain areas to be declared as ecologically sensitive zones particularly in Jammu and Kashmir;
(b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise;
(c) the details of the schemes under implementation/programmes for preservation, maintenance and development of these areas along with the amount of funds allocated for the same during the last three years, State-wise; and
(d) the steps being taken to maintain the perpetuality of ecology in these areas along with the achievement made so far in this regard?

(a) to (d) The Chief Wildlife Warden, Jammu and Kashmir had forwarded 12 proposals for declaration of Eco-Sensitive Zones, (covering 16 National Parks and Sanctuaries), to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. However, no Eco-Sensitive Zones around National Parks and Sanctuaries in Jammu and Kashmir have been notified. The State-wise details of proposals for declaration of Eco-Sensitive Zone around National Parks and Sanctuaries received is at Annexure-1. Presently, there are no schemes under implementation for maintenance and development of the Eco-Sensitive Zones around National Parks and Sanctuaries. The notifications for Eco-Sensitive Zones provide for regulation/prohibition of unsustainable activities, besides preparation of Zonal Master Plans with adequate participation of local communities. The details of the final notifications of eco-sensitive zones around National Parks and Sanctuaries is at Annexure-2.
