Question : MIGRATION OF PERSONS IN SEARCH OF EMPLOYMENT



(a) whether a large number of people/rural labourers are migrating to other States in search of employment in the country particularly from Jharkhand and Bihar;

(b) if so, the details of the persons who have migrated during the last three years and current year, till-date, State-wise;

(c) the adverse effect of migration on agriculture in rural areas;

(d) whether the Government have any policy or programme to stop such large scale migration;

(e) if so, the details thereof; and

(f) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) & (b): Yes, Sir. Accelerated movement of people mainly from the rural areas in search of better employment opportunities has been one of the most important features of the labour market of different states including the State of Bihar and Jharkhand. Since migration is a continuous process in the country data regarding number of persons migrating form one State to another, is not maintained at the Central level

(c): No adverse effect of migration on agriculture in rural areas has been noticed.

(d) to (f): In order to reduce the incidence of migration and generate employment opportunities, the Government has launched a number of schemes under Swaranjayanti Gram Swaroazgar Yojana, Pradhanmantri Rozgar Yojana etc. especially in rural areas.
